How to create a one-off service

Set up a service clients pay for once: type, details, pricing, request form.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

Use case

You sell work with a fixed scope, like a landing page, a logo or a website audit. Clients pay once and send you the request. For work billed every period, create a recurring service instead (see How to create a recurring service).

A one-off service is charged once. You set it up in four steps: Service type, Service details, Pricing details and Request form.

Create a one-off service

  1. In the sidebar, open Services and click All services. Click Create service.

  2. Under Service type, choose One-off (Charged once for a fixed scope of work.) and click Next.

Service type step with the One-off card highlighted
  3. Under Service details, enter the Service name and a Description. Clients see both in your catalog and at checkout. You can also upload a Service image (recommended size 390x190 px). Click Next.

Service details step with Service name, Description and Service image
  4. Under Pricing details, pick how the service is priced and fill in the fields (details below). Click Next.

  5. Under Request form, build the form clients fill in when they send a request for this service. Click Add item to add a field, and use the Conditions tab to show or hide fields based on answers. See How to customize service request forms.

Request form step with the Add item button highlighted
  6. Click Save. The service is now in All services.

Good to know: once you have chosen the type and entered a name and description, you can click Save as draft at any time and finish later. Clicking Next on Pricing details also saves the service as a draft. Draft services show a Draft badge in All services and clients can't buy them.

Pricing options for one-offs

Choose one of three pricing types:

Under More details you can set:

  • Purchase limit: how many times one client organization can buy this service. Leave it empty for unlimited purchases.

  • Allowed requests: how many requests a client can submit after buying it once.

  • Requests allocation (time based and credit based only): choose Fixed amount to use Allowed requests, or Requests based on total hours (time based) or Requests based on total credits (credit based) to let clients send requests for as long as they have hours or credits left. With the second option you can also set Max concurrent requests, the number of requests a client can have open at the same time.

  • Require request submission at checkout: when on, clients fill in the request form as part of checkout. When off, the one-off is added to the client's stock and they can submit the request later.

  • Allow quantity selection: when on, clients choose how many units to buy at checkout. When off, they buy one at a time.

  • Make this the default service: makes the service available to every client, whether or not they have bought anything. See How to offer services for free.

For every pricing field explained in one place, see Service pricing configurations.

Tips

  • To share the service directly, open the row menu in All services and click Copy payment link.

  • To change the form later without going through the pricing steps, use Edit request form in the same menu.

  • To sell extras with the service at checkout, create add-ons. See How subscription add-ons work.
