Use case
Your clients want extras on top of their plan, like rush delivery or priority support. This article shows where you manage add-ons, where clients buy them, how to bill them on an invoice, and how to change them on a live subscription.
View and manage your add-ons
In the sidebar, open Services and click Add-ons. Each add-on is listed with its Title, Price and Charge type (One-off or Recurring).
Click the three dots on the right of an add-on and select Edit or Delete.
To add a new one, click Create add-on. For every field, see How to create add-on services.
Where clients buy add-ons
At checkout: clients see the add-ons linked to the service under Where add-ons appear. A recurring add-on is billed every period with the subscription. A one-off add-on is charged once.
On trials: add-ons aren't offered on paid-trial checkouts. On a free trial they show at 0 and are listed under Future payments, so they are billed when the trial ends.
When submitting a request: if a client picks add-ons in the request form of their subscription, they pay for them at checkout before the request is submitted.
Add add-ons to an invoice
In the sidebar, click Invoices, then click Create invoice.
Click Select service and pick the client's subscription plan, for example Design Subscription Pro at its monthly price.
Under that line, click Add add-on and choose the add-on. It is added under the plan with its own rate, quantity and line total. Don't use Add line item for this: that adds a separate line that isn't linked to the plan.
Fill in the rest of the invoice and click Send invoice or Save as draft.
Good to know: Add add-on only lists add-ons that are linked to that service and use the same currency and billing period as the plan line.
Change add-ons on a live subscription
You and your client can add, remove or change the quantity of add-ons on a subscription that is billed through Stripe.
You: open the client's organization, go to Services and subscriptions, open the menu on the subscription card and click Manage add-ons. Your client: goes to Settings > Profile and account > Subscription, opens the menu on the subscription card and clicks Manage add-ons.
Under Current add-ons, change a quantity or remove an add-on. Under Add new add-on, pick one and click Add.
Check the New total and, for changes that apply now, the prorated amount Due today. To avoid an immediate charge, tick Schedule change at end of billing period (no immediate charge). When a client makes a change that lowers the total, it is always scheduled for the end of the billing period.
Click Save changes.
Check add-ons on a request
Open the request. In the Summary panel on the right, the add-ons included in the client's subscription are listed under the service.
What happens when a plan changes or is cancelled
When a subscription is moved to another plan with Update, the add-ons the new plan also offers carry over. Add-ons the new plan doesn't offer are listed under No longer available and can be removed before you confirm. See How to upgrade or downgrade subscriptions.
Recurring add-ons are billed as part of the subscription, so they stop when the subscription is cancelled.
