How to create add-ons

Create one-off or recurring add-ons with one or several prices and quantity selection, and choose the services they appear on.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

Add-ons are extras that clients can buy on top of a service, such as rush delivery, an extra revision round or a stock photo pack. You create an add-on once and choose which services it appears on.

Before you start: add-ons are part of billing, so the Billing module must be turned on in Settings > Modules and extensions. Only portal admins and admins can create add-ons.

Use case: Clients on your design subscription sometimes need work faster. You create a "Rush delivery" add-on for $150 and attach it to the subscription, so clients can pick it when they order or submit a request instead of asking you by email.

How to create an add-on

  1. Go to Services > Add-ons and click Create add-on.

  2. Enter a Title and, if you like, a Description. Clients see both.

  3. Choose the Field type:

    • Single: one add-on with one Price.

    • Multiple: several price options the client chooses between, for example 5, 10 or 20 stock photos. Under Pricing options for add-ons, give each option a name and a price, and click Add option for more.

  4. Choose the Billing type:

    • One-off: the client pays once.

    • Recurring: the add-on is billed with the subscription. Pick a Billing period. You can only attach a recurring add-on to services that have a plan with the same billing period.

  5. Turn Allow quantity selection on or off. When it is on, clients choose how many units to buy at checkout. When it is off, they can buy one at a time.

  6. Under Where add-ons appear, open Select services and pick the services this add-on belongs to.

Where add-ons appear section with the Select services field
  7. Click Create.

To change or remove an add-on later, open the menu (three dots) on its row in Services > Add-ons.

Where clients see add-ons

  • When they buy the service: the add-ons appear in the checkout for the services you selected. On one-off services, clients see your one-off add-ons. On recurring services, they see only the recurring add-ons that match the billing period of the plan they pick. Add-ons are not offered at checkout for services with a paid trial.

  • When they submit a request: the add-ons appear at the bottom of the request form for those services. Only one-off add-ons show here. If the client picks an add-on, they pay for it at checkout before the request is created.

  • On their subscription: clients can add or remove recurring add-ons on an active subscription. See How subscription add-ons work.

Good to know: add-ons replace what used to be called upsells.

The add-ons a client bought show on the request in the Summary panel, under the service name.
