What are top-ups?
Top-ups are one-time purchases your clients make on top of their plan to get more credits or hours, without upgrading their whole subscription.
Use case: A client on your credit-based plan has a busy month and runs low. Instead of changing their plan, they buy a 10-credit top-up in a couple of clicks and keep sending requests.
Before you start: top-ups are for credit-based or time-based services. The Top-up options menu only appears when credits or time tracking is turned on in your portal.
How to create a top-up option
In the sidebar, go to Services > Top-up options.
Click Create top-up at the top right.
Fill in the form:
Title: the name clients see, for example "20 extra credits".
Description (optional): a short line shown under the title at checkout.
Type: Credits or Hours.
Credits or Hours: how many the client gets (at least 1).
Price: what the client pays, in your portal's currency.
Click Create.
To change or remove a top-up later, use the three-dot menu on its row: Edit or Delete.
How clients buy a top-up
Clients with credits or hours left see their balance at the bottom of the sidebar. When you have at least one top-up option, the card has a Top-up button. The same button is on their Credits and Hours pages.
On the Top-up page, they tick the options they want and set the quantity. The Order summary updates as they go.
They click Next, confirm their billing details and pay. The credits or hours are added to their balance once the payment goes through.
Frequently asked questions
What kinds of top-ups are available?
Credits and hours.
Are top-ups recurring?
No. A top-up is a one-time payment. It has no billing period and doesn't change the client's subscription.
Why doesn't my client see the Top-up button?
The sidebar card only shows while the client has credits or hours left, and the button only shows when at least one top-up option exists. Clients can also top up from their Credits or Hours page.
