Add more functionality to your portal with extensions

Embed tools like Calendly, Looker Studio or Airtable as pages in your portal, per client or for everyone, and personalize them with variables.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

Use case: You want clients to book calls, see their reporting dashboard or fill in a form without leaving your portal. Extensions embed the other tools you use, such as Calendly, Looker Studio or Airtable, as pages in your portal's sidebar.

How extensions work

Each extension you add becomes a link under Extensions in the sidebar. The link opens a page inside your portal with the embedded tool. You only need the URL or the embed code of the page you want to show.

Book a call extension in a client's sidebar

Choose an extension type

When you add an extension, you choose who sees it and whether everyone gets the same page.

Example

Global extensions

For organizations

All clients, same page for everyone

A Calendly page to book a call

Global extensions

For your team

All team members and admins, same page

Your team wiki

Local extensions

For each organization

Each client organization gets its own page

A Looker Studio report per client

Local extensions

For your team

Each team member and admin gets their own page

A personal project board

How to add an extension

  1. Go to Settings > Modules and extensions and open the Extensions tab.

  2. Click Add extensions.

Extensions tab with the Add extensions button
  3. Pick the tool you want to embed. You can search or filter by category. Click Next.

  4. Under Extension type, pick one of the four options described above. Click Next.

  5. Optionally upload an Icon, then enter a Label. The label is the name of the link in the sidebar.

  6. For a global extension, paste the URL or embed code in Code snippet. For a local extension you connect each organization or team member after this step.

  7. Click Create extension.

Connect each organization to a local extension

  1. On the Extensions tab, click the gear icon next to the local extension.

  2. In the Organizations list, click Connect next to an organization.

  3. Paste that organization's URL or embed code in Code snippet and click Save changes.

Only connected organizations see the extension. A team version works the same way, with your team members listed instead.

Personalize the page with variables

You can add variables to the URL or code snippet. ManyRequests replaces them for the person viewing the page:

  • {{email}}: the viewer's email address.

  • {{name}}: the viewer's name.

  • {{ref}}: the organization's reference. It is filled in when a client signs up through a link that ends in ?ref=…, or you can add a property named ref to the organization.

Example: to prefill a Calendly booking form, use https://calendly.com/your-agency/30min?email={{email}}&name={{name}}. One global extension then works for every client, without asking them to type their details.

Other organization properties work too. Use the property label in lowercase, with underscores instead of spaces: a property called "Shared drive" becomes {{shared_drive}}. You manage properties under Properties on the organization's page. If a variable has no value, it is left empty.
