How to connect your AI assistant to your portal as a client

Connect Claude or ChatGPT to your client portal to follow your requests, send new ones, reply to your agency and check your hours left.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

If your agency allows it, you can connect Claude or ChatGPT to your client portal. Then you can ask your AI assistant about your requests, send a new one, reply to your agency or check how many hours you have left, without opening the portal.

Use case: You're planning next week's campaign in Claude. You ask it how many design hours your team has left this month, then tell it to send a Design Subscription request for the launch posts. Claude asks for the details the request form needs and sends the request. Later in the week, you ask Claude what your agency replied.

Before you start

  • Your agency needs to allow clients to connect an AI assistant. If you don't see an AI assistants tab in your profile settings, ask them to turn it on.

  • You need an account with Claude, or a paid ChatGPT plan.

  • Each person connects with their own login. If a colleague from your company wants to use it too, they connect from their own account.

How to find your connection link

  1. Log in to your portal.

  2. Click the three dots next to your name at the bottom of the sidebar, then click Your profile.

  3. Open the AI assistants tab.

  4. Under Connect an AI assistant, click Copy next to the link. It is your portal address followed by /mcp.

How to connect Claude

The same steps work in the Claude desktop app and at claude.ai.

  1. In Claude, go to Settings, then Connectors, and click Add custom connector.

  2. Paste the link and click Add.

  3. Claude opens your portal. Log in if you are asked to.

  4. On the approval screen, check that it shows your agency's portal and your email under Logged in as, then click Authorize.

  5. The first time Claude uses the connection in a conversation, it asks for permission. Allow it once or always.

How to connect ChatGPT

The same steps work in the ChatGPT desktop app and at chatgpt.com. This requires a paid ChatGPT plan.

  1. Go to Settings, then Apps & Connectors, then Advanced settings, and turn on Developer mode.

  2. Back in Apps & Connectors, click Create, name the connector (for example, after your agency), paste the link and choose OAuth for authentication.

  3. Log in to your portal and click Authorize on the approval screen.

  4. In a chat, open the + menu, choose Developer mode and enable the connector.

What you can ask

Start a new chat and ask "Which portal am I connected to?" to check the connection. Then ask in your own words. You never need request numbers or IDs: describe the request and the AI finds it.

Follow your requests

  • "What's the status of my open requests?"

  • "Did the agency reply on the homepage hero request?"

  • "Give me the files they delivered on request #1007."

  • "Reply on the homepage hero request: looks great, please go ahead with the mobile version."

  • "Mark the homepage hero request as completed."

Send a new request

  • "What services can I request?"

  • "Send a Design Subscription request titled Spring launch posts."

The AI fills in the same request form you see in the portal. It asks you for anything the form requires, and for the brand if your company has several. If more than one of your plans covers the service, it asks which plan the request goes against.

Check your plan, hours and invoices

  • "How many hours do we have left this month?"

  • "When does our plan renew?"

  • "Do we have any unpaid invoices? Send me the payment link."

The hours and credits are shared by everyone in your company. Invoices are only available if you can see them in your portal.

What to do in the portal instead

Some things can only be done in the portal. The AI tells you when, and gives you the link.

  • Files: the AI can't upload files. If the service's form asks for a file, finish the request on the portal's submit page.

  • Paid add-ons: add-ons are chosen and paid for on the submit page.

  • Reviews and tips: rate a request (and leave a tip, if your agency offers it) from the request in the portal.

  • Payments and plans: pay invoices, buy services, or change, pause or cancel a plan in the portal.

  • Editing: edit or delete a comment, or change a request after you sent it.

Your agency's team decides who works on a request, its status, priority and tags. You can set a due date only if your agency lets you edit due dates.

Good to know

  • The AI sees what you see: it works as you, so it only reaches your company's requests, files and invoices, and only what you can see in the portal.

  • Replies are sent right away: a comment the AI posts is sent to your agency as soon as it is posted, and marking a request as completed notifies everyone on it. Claude and ChatGPT usually ask you to confirm first.

  • Your agency can see the connection: your agency's admins can see that you connected an AI app and can disconnect it.

How to disconnect your AI assistant

  1. Open the AI assistants tab of your profile.

  2. Under Your connections, find the AI app. Each one shows when you authorized it and when it expires.

  3. Click Revoke, then Confirm.

The AI app loses access right away. To use it again, connect it again from Claude or ChatGPT.
