Request-based invoices let you bill a client for a specific request instead of their recurring subscription. This is useful when a request falls outside the usual scope of work or needs to be billed separately as a one-off project.
Common use case
You run a recurring design subscription, but a client submits a request that does not belong in their plan.
For example:
A large PDF, pitch deck, or booth asset
A special campaign or launch asset
A one-off project that requires separate approval and payment
Instead of adjusting the subscription, you can invoice just that request.
What is a request-based invoice?
A request-based invoice is an invoice created directly from an individual request. It is not tied to a subscription cycle and is billed as a one-time charge.
This keeps things clean:
The subscription stays unchanged
The extra work is clearly itemized
The invoice is linked directly to the request
How to create an invoice from a request
Step 1: Open the request
Open the request you want to invoice.
Step 2: Locate the payment sidebar
On the right-hand sidebar of the request, find the dollar icon.
If no invoice exists yet, you will see an option to create one.
Step 3: Create the invoice
Click Create Invoice.
From here, you can:
Set the invoice amount
Add a description for the one-off work
Review the details before sending it to the client
Step 4: Send the invoice to the client
Once created, the invoice is sent to the client and tracked directly from the request.
When to use request-based invoices
Request-based invoices are ideal when:
A task is outside the client’s subscription scope
The work requires separate approval or budget
You want a clear paper trail for one-off projects
You do not want to modify or pause an existing subscription
Things to keep in mind
Request-based invoices are one-time charges
They do not affect the client’s recurring subscription
Payment status is visible directly on the request
This works well for agencies offering a mix of subscriptions and custom projects
