How to turn on/off invoicing visibility for clients

Choose whether clients can see and download their invoices in the portal, or hide invoices from the whole portal.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

You decide whether clients can see their invoices in the portal. The setting applies to all clients at once.

Use case: You run a creative agency and your clients' finance teams handle billing by email. You turn off invoice access so the portal stays focused on requests. Or, to save back-and-forth emails, you keep invoices visible so clients can download them anytime.

How to turn invoice access on or off for clients

  1. Go to Settings > Modules and extensions and open Users.

  2. Scroll down to the Clients section and find Billing.

  3. Turn Access invoices on or off.

  4. Click Save changes.

What clients see

  • When on: clients see Invoices in their sidebar, where they can view, download and pay their invoices.

  • When off: the Invoices link disappears and clients can't open their list of invoices. Send invoices another way, for example with Request payment by email or Get payment link from the invoice menu.

Good to know

  • The same Billing section has Cancel subscriptions, which controls whether clients can cancel their own subscriptions. See How to disable the cancel or pause subscription option.

  • To stop using invoices across the whole portal, go to Settings > Modules and extensions > Billing, open the Invoices tab and turn off Invoice management. As the setting says, transactions then won't generate invoices and the Invoices page is hidden from your portal, for your team as well as your clients.
