Use case
You want to run a promotion or reward a client with a discount. Create a coupon code that clients enter at checkout, choose how much it takes off and for how long, and limit who can use it and until when.
Create a discount coupon
In the sidebar, open Services and click Discount coupons. Your coupons are listed with their Code, Details, how often they were Redeemed and their Expiry date. Click Create coupon.
Under Coupon code, type the code clients will enter, or click Generate coupon to create a random one. Add a Description if you like; it shows in the Details column.
Pick a Discount type: Percentage or Fixed amount. Enter the Discount. A fixed amount is in your portal currency.
For subscriptions, choose the Discount duration for recurring services:
Once: only the first payment is discounted.
Forever: every payment is discounted.
Repeating: the discount applies for a set number of months. Pick the Duration in months, from 1 to 12.
On one-off services, the discount is applied once.
Choose where the coupon works with Applies to services... (whole services or specific prices) and Applies to order forms.... You must pick at least one service or order form.
Under Redemption details, turn on the limits you need:
Limit to one use per client: each client can redeem the coupon once.
Limit number of uses in total: enter how many times it can be redeemed across all clients.
Set expiry date: pick the last day it can be used.
Applies to paid trials: lets the coupon lower the amount of a paid trial. Leave it off to discount only the regular payments.
Click Save changes.
How clients use a coupon
At checkout, the client enters the code under Coupon code in the order summary and clicks Apply. A coupon can also be applied when a subscription is changed with Update, or added automatically through a link: see How to create auto-applied coupons.
FAQ
Can I offer a 100% off coupon?
You can create one, but checkout won't accept a coupon whose discount is equal to or more than the price of the order. The client sees "This coupon can't be applied to this order." To let clients try a service for free, offer a free trial instead: see How to create free or paid trials.
Can I edit a coupon after creating it?
Yes, but only some fields. The code, discount type, discount and duration are locked. You can still change the description, the services and order forms it applies to, and the redemption details. To change a locked field, delete the coupon from its row menu and create a new one.
Do coupons work on one-off and recurring services?
Yes. Pick the services under Applies to services.... The duration setting only matters for recurring services.
