Import your existing Stripe services and clients

Connect an existing Stripe account and import its products as services and its subscribed customers as clients, with their live subscriptions.

Written by Gabriel Lecointere

Use case: You already sell plans through Stripe and have clients with live subscriptions. You want those plans and clients in ManyRequests without asking anyone to sign up or pay again.

When you connect a Stripe account that already has products and subscriptions, ManyRequests checks it for data your portal doesn't have yet and offers to import it. Only the portal admin sees this prompt.

Before you start

  • Make sure each Stripe customer you want to import has an email address. Customers without one are skipped.

  • Only active Stripe prices are imported as services, and only active subscriptions bring their clients with them.

  • If a client already exists in your portal with the same email, the subscription is added to that client instead of creating a new one.

Connect Stripe

  1. Go to Settings > Modules and extensions and open Billing.

  2. On the Payments tab, turn on Automate payments with Stripe and connect your Stripe account.

Billing settings with the Automate payments with Stripe switch
  3. After you're back in your portal, ManyRequests compares your Stripe account with your portal in the background. This can take a moment.

Import your services and clients

  1. If data needs importing, a banner appears at the top of your portal: You've connected your portal to Stripe. Next, sync the services you created in your portal with your Stripe account. Click to continue. Click it to open the billing settings.

  2. Under Sync data with Stripe, click Sync with Stripe.

  3. Choose what to import:

    • Import only services: your Stripe products become services.

    • Import services and clients: also creates the clients subscribed to your plans and links their subscriptions.

  4. If you import clients, decide whether to tick Send email invitation to newly added clients. Leave it off if you want to tell clients about the portal yourself first.

  5. Click Sync with Stripe to start. While it runs you'll see We are syncing your data with Stripe. It can take a few minutes for a large account.

What gets imported

In Stripe

In ManyRequests

A product with recurring prices

A recurring service, with one billing period per price (for example monthly and yearly)

A product with a one-time price

A one-off service

Product name and description

Service name and description

An active subscription

A client (matched by email, or created with the Stripe customer's name) with that subscription and its current billing period

A subscription item with a quantity of 3

Three subscriptions for that client

The sync also works the other way: services you created in your portal before connecting are added to Stripe, and tax rates are synced in both directions.

Good to know: Imported services start with the basics only. Review each one under Services to add a request form, an image and limits such as Max concurrent requests before you share it.

FAQ

Will my clients be charged again?

No. Their existing Stripe subscriptions are linked, not recreated. Billing keeps running in Stripe as before.

What happens if I click Skip?

After you confirm in the Skip sync with Stripe window, the prompt goes away and nothing is imported. It only comes back when ManyRequests checks your account again, for example after you reconnect Stripe.

Why wasn't a client imported?

Check that their subscription is active, that the Stripe customer has an email, and that the email isn't already used by a client linked to a different Stripe customer.
