How to offer monthly and annual pricing on one service

Add several billing periods to one recurring service so clients can choose weekly, monthly, quarterly, twice-yearly or annual billing at checkout.

Use case: Most of your clients pay monthly, but some would rather pay once a year in exchange for a better price. Instead of creating two services, add both billing periods to the same service and let the client choose at checkout.

A recurring service can have one price per billing period: Weekly, Monthly, Quarterly, Biannually and Annually. Each period can be used once per service.

Add billing periods to a service

  1. Go to Services > All services, open the menu next to a recurring service and click Edit. For a new service, click Create service and choose a recurring service type.

  2. On the Pricing details step, fill in the Price and Recurring period for the first option.

  3. Click Add recurring period to add another row.

  4. Enter the price and pick the period in Select period. Periods you've already used aren't listed again.

New pricing row with the period list open showing Weekly and Biannually
  5. Repeat for each period you want to offer, then click Next to save.

For a Time based service, each row also has Hours (hours included in each billing period). For a Credit based service, each row has Credits. This way a yearly plan can include more hours or credits than a monthly one.

To remove a period, hover over its row and click the trash icon. A service always keeps at least one price.

What your clients see at checkout

On the checkout page of a recurring service, clients pick one of your prices under Subscription type. Each option shows the period and its price. For a Time based service, the hours included are shown next to the period. On phones and tablets, a free or paid trial is also shown under each option.

Tips

  • Show the saving in the price itself. For example, $1,995.00 per month and $21,500.00 per year makes the yearly discount clear without extra text.

  • To let existing subscribers move from monthly to yearly on their own, turn on Allow billing period changes under Upgrade & downgrade paths on the same step and pick the prices they can switch to. See the article How to control which plans clients can upgrade or downgrade to.
